This is Shadow Scout, a newsletter about Urban Preparedness & Survival essentials for life in the big city.
Survivalists have given “survival-ism” and “prepping” a bad name.
If you associate these terms with conspiracy theorists, gun enthusiasts, alt-right militia types, racists, cults, and end-of-the-world characters, please set that aside. It distracts from a very real, very mainstream set of challenges we all face. Especially, people living in big cities.
Moreover, these people tend to be rural and suburban, so they are concerned with very different scenarios than we have in the city. If anything, we are even more vulnerable than they are to terrorist attacks, civil unrest, social-economic collapse, and natural disasters.
In 2020, the world began the "Great Reset." We are now living in a "dystopian future." A global pandemic, domestic insurrection, nationwide lock-downs, inflation, economic depression, food shortages, mass surveillance, and war. For over a decade, I tried to warn and prepare executives for the realities of this dystopian future. Now here we are.
Since 2012, I have been teaching Urban Emergency Preparedness and Survival, to executives in New York City. In the beginning, the companies only wanted standard fire safety and natural disaster information. I took it upon myself to add active shooter defense, terrorist attack survival, urban preparedness, and urban survival, to my in-office training. The executives and employees were hungry for my "added" material. But, the company management, HR, and corporate legal were very nervous about teaching anything that could be deemed “controversial.”
Once the executives were introduced to the new ideas, information and concepts, they took it upon themselves to get additional training from me privately. This was the origin of The Urban Scout. I laser-focused on four areas in the context of life in a densely populated urban city.

The pandemic and lock-downs forced everyone out of the office and onto the internet, Zoom, YouTube, TikTok, and Substack. I realized this was the perfect opportunity to bring this life saving information to people outside the skyscrapers of New York City.
I aim to be a resource, guide, instructor, and coach. I remove the unessential and provide you with that which is efficient and effective.
Until next time. Stay ready, so you don’t have to get ready!
